This picture is the one that stole my heart! This is Madison! She is a Boston Terrier. Boston Terrier's are my breed of choice. What made me choose a Boston Terrier, well let me tell you...I mean besides how unbelievably adorable they are...

Boston Terriers

Some of the things to think about when choosing a breed.

Average Height: 15 - 17 inches

Average Weight: 12 - 25 pounds

Life Expectancy: 11 - 13 years

Colors: Brindle, seal or black with white markings

Temperament - Boston Terriers are lively, highly intelligent, smooth coated, short-headed, compactly built, short-tailed, well balanced dog. Boston Terriers are a companion breed, meaning that their only job in life is to be with you. Boston Terriers are bred to be companions which means that they would be pretty miserable if they do not have adequate time and attention from their people. They are very easily trained, they learn quickly and do well in dog sports such as agility and flyball.

Caution about Boston Terriers, they are brachycephalic which means that they have a flat broad nose and short upper jaw. They are susceptible to overheating in humid or hot weather. With their short coats, they are not very tolerant of cold. Also Boston Terriers have protruding eyes so they can be prone to corneal abrasions.

Interesting facts about Boston Terriers:

  • They are born with short tails, they are not docked.

  • The cartilage that makes up their tail is in the shape of a Z, their tail has not been broken, that is the way it is supposed to be.

  • Not all Boston Terriers are able to wag their tails.

  • Boston Terriers have really smelly flatulence.

  • They do something called reverse sneezing. The first time it happens it will scare you to death, but if you massage their throat it helps them get relief quicker.

  • Many Boston Terriers get what we call the "zoomies", they run around in circles as if they are having an out of body experience. It is great entertainment for their people.

Boston Terriers are native to the United States. I thought that was interesting since there aren't many pups that are native to the United States. They used to be called American Bull Terriers until the AKC decided to change the name in 1891. They are a cross between and English Bulldog and a White English Terrier.

Hope you enjoyed a little info on Boston Terriers, they are my favorite and very fun pups.
